The Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the UNECE Exhibition on "Energy Transition"

On January 19, 2017, as part of the meeting of the 25th Session of the Committee on Sustainable Energy, the exhibition dedicated to energy transition in the UNECE* countries was launched in UN's residence in Geneva. The term "energy transition (turning)" means the course for gradual transition to sustainable energy and provision of economic growth through the use of "clean" technologies.

Case studies of four countries: Kazakhstan, Germany, Azerbaijan and Ukraine were presented at the exhibition. The exposition of our country was dedicated to carrying out the International specialized exhibition EXPO-2017 "Energy of the Future", on the sidelines of which the Ministerial Conference "Provision of Sustainable Energy Development" (June 11-14, 2017) and the 8th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable development (8-9 September 2017) will be held. Our country offers the world community to conduct a global dialogue to find the best solutions of balanced development of alternative and traditional energy aimed at ensuring the availability of energy resources. The dialogue aims to improve understanding of current global processes, the role and place of traditional energy in the future energy system of the world, as well as to develop political incentives for the implementation of national strategies.

Azerbaijan presented a study on the topic "Azerbaijan from the perspective: The energy from the past to the future"; Germany address the meeting with the concept of the energy transition («Energiewende») i.e. the course taken by the Government of the country for the transition to renewable energy sources, and Ukraine, in turn, presented a study on the consequences of man-made disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant: "Ukraine after Chernobyl".

The exhibition is held by the Regional Committee for the first time. The event was opened by the UNECE Executive Secretary and the UN Deputy Secretary General Christian Bach, as well as the Vice-Chairman of the Bureau of the UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy and the Executive Director of KAZENERGY Association Ramazan Zhampiisov.

In addition, exhibitors were also welcomed by the Ambassador Vagif Sadigov - a Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN, Lionel Zetter - the Head of the European Azerbaijan Society, Uwe Petri - the Head of the Department of Economic Affairs and Valery Pisarenko - a Member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

*United Nations Economic Commission for Europe is one of the five United Nations regional commissions. It was established in 1947 by the Economic and Social Council of the UN (ECOSOC) for the development of economic activity and the strengthening of economic relations within the UNECE region and between the region and the rest of the world.

UNECE serves as a regional forum for governments to develop conventions, norms and standards in order to harmonize activities and facilitate the exchange of views between Member States. In performing this function, UNECE provides a guarantee of safety and quality to consumers, helps to protect the environment, simplifies trade procedures, and contributes to a more close unity of the Member States within the region and their better integration into the world economy.
