A meeting of KAZENERGY Women Energy Club was held at the site of Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B. V.

The field regional meeting of KAZENERGY Women Energy Club (hereinafter – the WEC) was held on this June 27 to support the development of gender policy in the oil and gas industry.

At the opening of the meeting, Edwin Blom, KPO General Director, made a welcoming speech and a presentation. During his speech, Edwin Blom shared information on the activities of KPO, statistics on employment of men and women in the company, indicators of representation and participation of men and women in various positions.

Also during the event, KPO female employees shared their success stories of professional growth in the company and told about the opening of the KPO Women’s Club this May. According to the organizers of the Women’s Club, it is a unique platform for sharing experiences, promoting development, gaining new knowledge through interaction and cooperation at different levels of the company, where each female employee can reveal her inner potential.

In addition, KPO organized a visit to Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field and a number of industrial facilities of the company for the participants of the field meeting.

Alongside this, there was a meeting of the WEC Executive Committee, which included a presentation on the development of information and analytical review “The role of women in the energy sector of Kazakhstan” (hereinafter – the Review), implemented by KAZENERGY Association together with the EBRD. The contractor for the development of the Review is the consulting company Ergon (UK).

The purpose of this Review is to identify the contribution and role of women in the development of the country’s oil and gas and energy sectors. The Review will include analyses of statistical and sociological data, best practices of oil and gas and energy companies in support of working women, international experience in the empowerment of women in the industry and recommendations for the subsequent development of possible programs and activities aimed at supporting women in the industry and helping to solve existing problems.

Currently, members of the Association are sent a survey developed jointly with Ergon to collect the abovementioned data. After this July 20, Ergon will start the analysis of the data provided and will present the interim results at the IV WEC Forum themed “Modern image of women’s leadership in the energy sector of Kazakhstan”, which will be held on September 25 in the framework of KAZAKHSTAN ENERGY WEEK-2019.

KWEC Executive Committee also discussed the implementation of the project of digital mentoring, organization and holding of IV WEC Forum, etc.
