“STUDENT ENERGY CHALLENGE” COMPETITION FINALISTS DECIDED

The semi-finals of the “Student Energy Challenge” intellectual team competition, organized by KAZENERGY Association and Shell Kazakhstan B.V., were held today, September 23, at the Congress Center in Nur Sultan.

9 (nine) teams took part in the semi-finals:

Environmental emission reduction
1. “Wind of Change” Nazarbayev University (Nur-Sultan)
2. “Thunder” Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Almaty)
3. “OxyGEN” Kazakh National Research Technical University named after K.I. Satpayev (Almaty)

Waste disposal and recycling
4. “EcoTeam” Kostanay State University named after A. Baitursynov (Kostanay)
5. “FEOGI” Kazakh-British Technical University (Almaty)
6. “24ELEMENT” Aktobe Regional State University named after K. Zhubanov (Aktobe)
7. “Fam” Kazakh-British Technical University (Almaty)

Digitalization
8. “Dream Team” Kazakh-British Technical University (Almaty)

Energy conservation and energy efficiency in the oil and gas industry
9. “Innovation WKATU” West Kazakhstan Agrarian and Technical University named after Zhangir Khan (Uralsk)

In the semifinals, the teams presented video presentations of the project data sheets describing the purpose and technological process of the proposed projects.
Upon defense and discussion of the presentations, competition judges determined the following teams to go through to the finals.
  • “Innovation WKATU” West Kazakhstan Agrarian and Technical University named after Zhangir Khan (Uralsk);
  • “Wind of Change” Nazarbayev University (Nur-Sultan);
  • “FEOGI” Kazakh-British Technical University (Almaty).
The final of the Student Energy Challenge competition will be held on September 24, 2019, as part of the XI Youth Forum “Youth and Challenges of the Time” in Nur Sultan.
The key moment will be the elevator pitch* presentations by team representatives.
“Student Energy Challenge” is a competition intended to reveal the most promising and outstanding projects created by students.v

The event is held as part of “Kazakhstan Energy Week 2019” (KEW-2019), which is the key event of the country's oil and gas sector, implemented by KAZENERGY Association with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The KEW-2019 platform brings together industry events to comprehensively discuss further efficient and stable development of the Kazakhstan’s fuel and energy complex and attract investment in the industry.

The key event of the Energy Week will be the XII KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum. This event, held by KAZENERGY Association since 2006, is the main international event in the energy sector of the Caspian and Central Asian regions. Over 2.5 thousand delegates from more than 300 companies representing over 50 countries of the world take part in the Forum every year. For many years, the Forum features influential political figures and world-renowned experts, which emphasizes the high prestige of the event.

For reference: Elevator pitch (presentation in the elevator) is the format of a presentation or speech in limited time, usually one minute (the period during which elevator comes up or down in a high-rise building). The key of elevator pitch is that the entrepreneur should explain the gist of his/her business idea and its attractiveness to investors within one minute.
