During the conference, the speakers told about the history of the development of the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan, including in the conditions of independence, when a long-term strategy for the growth of the industry was first developed and an independent system for its management was created.

The strategic vision of KAZENERGY on sustainable development of oil, gas and energy industry of Kazakhstan as a single system was presented during the presentation of the NER. The main expert in the process of working on the NER was the IHS Markit company.

Matthew Sagers, Executive Director for Economics and Energy in Eurasia, Head of the Russian and Caspian Energy Advisory Service at IHS Markit, said during the presentation of the Report that during the preparation of this study, the experts tried to answer the following questions: how to attract investment? how to ensure sufficient gas volume for domestic and export market? How to work, integrating production in the framework of the EAEU and many other.

Speaking about the environment, the speaker noted that “we should not forget our environmental obligations under the Paris agreement.” Touching upon the issues related to the introduction of renewable energy and the capacity market, he considered it appropriate to recall that energy is a very important sector for Kazakhstan, it is a large proportion of the economy. “Energy accounts for 25% of the country’s GDP, it is mainly the oil and gas sector,” he said.
“When we build long-term plans, we see that hydrocarbons occupy an important place. The oil still takes the 1st place. Despite the development of renewable energy, gas remains a key element of energy,” the speaker informed, adding that the main consumers of oil will be Asia and China.

Vice-Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Asset Magauov at the session of the roundtable on “Digital energy of the future. Transition period” said that for the development of digitalization in Kazakhstan, it is necessary to reduce costs and increase productivity. Kazakhstan is ready to listen to recommendations for further development of digital demand.

Abbas Jalali Jafari, Vice-President of Electricite de France in turn noted: “Without energy, society will face poverty and decline. We choose electricity without emissions and CO2. We get 74% of energy from the nuclear sphere, the rest is renewable energy. Our energy sector is fully adapted to seasonality and demand. We play a big role in developing solutions for smart grids. Smart grids are not progressing fast enough and, above all, a political solution is needed to promote innovation in this market.”
