Meeting of KAZENERGY Association and AMME on the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)Meeting of KAZENERGY Association and AMME on the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)On May 22, KAZENERGY held a joint meeting of KAZENERGY Association member companies and Association of Mining and Metallurgical Enterprises (AMME) on the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) with the participation of the Head of the EITI International Secretariat, Mark Robinson.
Opening the meeting, Director of KAZENERGY Department for International Cooperation, Baurzhan Umirzakov, stressed out that in 2017 Kazakhstan held another validation (the process of authorization for compliance with international requirements of the EITI Standard), following which the EITI International Board decided on the status of the country. He drew attention to the significant progress of Kazakhstan in the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative. However, according to the established Regulations, the International Board gave 18 months to eliminate existing deficiencies (until August 13, 2019 – the beginning of the re-validation) in order to fully comply with the requirements of the EITI Standard.
Head of the International EITI Secretariat, Mark Robinson, noted the high level of involvement of the company in the development of the standard and defined a number of advantages of our country, including electronic reporting, as well as the timeliness of data publication. Moreover, he provided information on the preparation for the EITI Global Conference, which will be held in June of this year in Paris. During this conference, a new EITI Standard will be adopted; it will cover the disclosure of information about contracts concluded between companies and authorized bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The participants discussed these changes in detail.
The participants also discussed the publication of information on the beneficiaries of the companies and further work on the preparation for the X EITI National Conference, which will be held on September 26 within the framework of KAZAKHSTAN ENERGY WEEK.
